What Should You Expect?
I’m VERY excited to bring you this unique opportunity found only in Alaska. People travel all over the world to see and photograph ice caves, but we found an area with DOZENS of icebergs, caverns, spires and caves. The best part? There are no time restrictions! We will spend several days exploring this glacier and finding all its secrets.

Itinerary
Please note: this itinerary is subject to change.
Day 1: Fly from Fairbanks to our glacier location.
The next three days will be spent exploring and photographing, looking for caves, moulins, and crevices. The glacier and ice caves are the main focus for this workshop, but we will also be photographing mountains, small scenes of frost and ice, and other winter scenery.
Day 4: This workshop will conclude after our flight to Anchorage. (Approx. 3pm)
Education
Our education focus for this workshop will be on the technical side of shooting ice caves. I’ll show you how we can shoot difficult scenes without a tripod, while also focus stacking and bracketing. You will learn how to best use the available light and maximize the number of compositions you can shoot in a session.
We will spend free time in the evenings processing your photographs in both Photoshop and Lightroom. These sessions will be recorded.

Logistics & Important Information
Our Alaska Winter Expedition ENDS in Fairbanks. From here, we will fly to the glacier. After the extension, you will be flown back to Anchorage where the workshop ends.
Lodging near the glacier is basic but clean, and everyone will have their own rooms.
This workshop is all-inclusive, but food options are limited. I will be cooking you family style breakfasts. We will pack snacks for lunch and eat at a small restaurant for dinner. Please communicate any dietary needs ahead of time.
There is an assumed risk to exploring ice caves and glaciers. We will be checking ice thickness for safety throughout the workshop.
Travel Insurance: Flights to and from the glacier have a small chance of being canceled. Plan to be flexible with your departure from Anchorage.
This area is highly photogenic and will easily spoil once it’s discovered by social media. Flight and lodging details will be sent after booking.
Camera Gear
- Bring all your lenses along for this workshop. We will mostly be using ultra wide & telephoto. A macro lens will help with ice crystals.

- Camera bag

Personal Gear
- We will send you a list of recommended winter gear
- Micro-spikes that fit over your winter boots

Fitness Requirements
You will need to be in moderately good physical fitness to join this workshop. Almost all of the hiking is done on flat ground. A FULL day exploring the glacier can have us walking 5+ miles. Even with micro spikes, ice can be slippery. You should have good balance.
